It took me two months living in downtown Chicago before I did two of the coolest things the city has to offer:

Improv Olympic's Whirled News Tonight runs on Fridays and Saturdays at 8. Before the show, audience members cut out articles from newspapers laid out on a table and post them on a bulliten board behind the tiny stage. The improv troupe then acts out their conception of what the articles' backstory might be. I.O. (as they've been called since the International Olympic Committee sued) has some really sharp performers, not to mention a well-stocked bar. It's a great start for an night out.

Since I moved here, I've been told to take the Chicago Architecture Foundation''s Chicago River boat tour. Despite the driving rain that forced most of the passengers inside the lounge for the first half of the trip, it was worth the price of the ticket. The Chicago River is like a higway cut through town, abutted on all sides by Chicago's biggest business. While tour buses can drive past the Sears Tower and the Civic Opera House, traffic and street bustle creates a substantively different experience than gliding past these landmarks on a big boat.
