Excuse me, I need to go #3

Cella emailed me a solution to my blog ennui:

um... well, here's what's been entertaining me: You must make a mixed tape out of only #3 tracks (which tends to be the best track on a given cd). It must be #3 on the original album- you can't use compilations, soundtracks (unless it's all original music, like a broadway musical), or "best of's." If you want, I'll trade you my version. It may or may not have Sir Mix-A-Lot on it.

I have ten tracks here that I think would make a good mix, in the order I think they would sound best. It's a little on the more recent side and includes a lot of songs that are pretty obvious if you know my musical tastes, but don't read anything into that other than the fact that it's hard to remember/include all of the worthy classics. A dance party mix would be different, as would a driving CD, or any other purpose-oriented mix. Caveats aside, here it is:

The Streets, "Let's Push Things Forward" (#3 on Original Pirate Material)
McLusky, "She Will Only Bring You Happiness" (#3 on The Difference Between You & Me Is That I'm Not On Fire)
Velvet Underground, "Rock and Roll" (#3 on Loaded)
Notorious B.I.G., "Hypnotize" (#3 on Life After Death)
Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out" (#3 on Franz Ferdinand)
M.I.A., "Bucky Done Gun" (#3 on Arular)
Of Montreal, "Wraith Pinned to the Mist (and other games)" (#3 on The Sunlandic Twins)
Spoon, "I Turn My Camera On" (#3 on Gimmie Fiction)
Cut Copy, "Saturdays" (#3 on Bright Like Neon Love)
David Bowie, "Moonage Daydream" (#3 on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust)

Allright Cella, show me what you've got!

UPDATE: Cella submits her list.

Yay, do I get a copy?
I have been in a silent pit of despair since I got on the bus this morning and realized my ipod was still sleeping in my bag upstairs. I will spend today seeing if I can remember what I have on there and next week I'll bring you your own shiny disc. I also think #7s and #11s would make for good listenin.

Ok, I'll burn it for Monday.

I have a friend who swears #1, #4, #7, and #10 are where it's at.

#1s are pretty good in general, but I think you could make a solid CD with all tracks of any number.

Is that your next bluestate set?

:-)

I agree; I have a smart playlist of #10s (smart so it turns over when I've listened to it, and I get a different mix every time) and it's usually pretty damn good.

Kristine - if you want to get in on this meme, we'd love to see what you come up with.

Posted by: rj3 at May 26, 2006 9:18 PM

Um...I'll try, but I think I have too many "greatest hits" and "ultimate collections" to make a truly representative, or at least cohesive, playlist. I'll work on it tonight and tomorrow, and see what I come up with.

hey-o! i've joined in too even though my list doesn't have a blog of its own to call home.

i followed the rules, and tried to pick songs that were representative of my musical tastes. these are on the more recent side, but good songs nonetheless.

2. Ash, Burn Baby Burn (#3 on Free All Angels)

update: my list has an error. apparently my itunes tracklisting was inverted for track #3 (tracy jacks), but if you replace that with blur's "coffee and tv" (#3 on 13) you should be ok!
