20 First Dates, Vol. 2

Right after I hit "publish" on the last post, I went into a little interview room with a corporate guy from a large-ish Chicago firm. I feel somewhat bad for him, since the big draw today was a slightly larger Chicago firm that sent four different interviewers to evaluate dozens of law students. He told me that I seem like a "media guy" from my resume, so I had to explain my transition from journalism to law. The last interviewer asked me that as well, so I should probably have a snappy retort that I can whip out as soon as the interviewer drops the question. I suppose "there's no way I'm ever going to afford a BMW 6-series and a yacht on 30 grand a year" isn't what they're looking for.

However, I did make a bit of a gaffe, asking about the firms plans to move when they had already done so earlier this year. Did he care that I missed the big notice on the website's Chicago office page? Maybe, maybe not. It's not the first time I've felt foolish and it won't be the last.

In-between interview blog-reading: VA Sen. Candidate George Allen (R-1850) may or may not have named his kids after the founder of the Klan and two Confederate war "heroes." That's quite a lot of southern pride for a native Californian. "California Uber Alles" indeed!
