I aim to please

Unlike the blog I wrote back when I lived in Washington, I've been having a rough time figuring what to write about, and it shows. These are the topics I have to work with:

1. Law school stuff. I think my D.C. friends like reading about this, since they're (mostly) not in school and learn about callbacks, cold-calling and gunners from yours truly. However, a small but growing number of my classmates read this blog and they probably don't appreciate reading the bitching and moaning that is the bread-and-butter of my normal conversation.

2. Local stuff. I've only lived here for 14 months, during which time I didn't read the local papers very often, didn't hang out with many locals and didn't follow any of the professional sports teams. I don't really know the scene all that well, haven't gone to shows and don't know any local bands beyond Wilco, which I don't like and isn't really local anymore.

3. My personal life. On the one hand, my name isn't on this blog, so I should feel comfortable talking about topics like friends and dating. On the other hand, many (if not most) of the people who read this blog know me personally and at least some readers, if I'm not discussing them specifically, will know who I'm talking about. After a year at this smallish law school, I've found out that it isn't worthwhile to share secrets you don't want to get around, since everyone here leaks like a sieve. Besides, my lovelife hasn't been all too interesting of late and doesn't look to be getting any juicier in the near future.

4. Politics or energy policy. Whenever I put my wonk hat on, people either love it or hate it. I tend to keep it to a minimum, since there is so much political content on the web that is better written and researched than my writing. I suppose that if I had the time, I could do some real homework and contribute something new to the discussion, but that's not possible on a regular basis.

5. Apples. Really, there's a limit.

What do you want to read about?

I always enjoyed you talking about new music you're getting into...

I wish I were listening to more...

I had a Honey Crisp apple from the farmer's market last week for the first time and today, we're getting married because it was THAT GOOD.

Do you mean to me, the apple, the farmer's market, or your fiancee?

You should write about things that are fun, funny or otherwise entertaining. Why does your shit have to fit a format if it's going to be entertaining?

I like the music reviews. And I liked the apple blogging from last year. Non-law school related. Apolitical.

Since you blogged about apples last year, why not try something different. Something seasonal...

Squash Blogging!

There are so many different kinds. It could last all winter! You could explore different ways to eat squash and describe different tastes and textures.

Only downside is you have to lug a different squash home every week or so. And then cook it.

Might not be feasible with your current schedule.

1) Let's have some of this "lefty, wonk-y" stuff.
2) What have you got against Wilco?

Posted by: N.Stein at September 28, 2006 4:21 PM

I dislike squash and Wilco for the same reasons: personal preference against bland things.

Posted by: rj3 at September 28, 2006 4:55 PM

Find squash bland? That's why G-D gave you a spice rack. (No, i don't mean that crazy guy Goudard at the Pei 9 metro stop in Montreal.) Find Wilco bland? Can't help you w/ that. So what about lefty, wonky blogging? Can we get some of that?
