Last night, I'm on a first date last night with a friend of a friend who goes to another law school in the area. We're chatting over drinks, having a generally pleasant time, when she dives into a rant about hipsters. Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of people who spend money to look disheveled, dress their infants in Ramones onesies and talk about how they were in to Bright Eyes "before it was cool" (still isn't). Yet, she goes too far:



"And you know what I really hate? When you ask some hipster what they did over the weekend and they tell you 'I went to this really great independent record store, spent hours sifting through the crates and got this fantastic LP by the.. umm... lets say Electric Sparkle Unicorns. They sort of tread the line between punk and new-wave and pop.' I mean, come on!"

All told, it was a failure all around. I wasn't too jazzed by the fact that that she seems to collect house pets and she doesn't seem to like my taste in music or weekend activities.

Best end-of-date line ever (hers): "It's been real."

I might have just giggled at little in the lawbrary while reading her closing line. I wasn't aware that people still used that phrase.

Last year, at Kyle's recommendation, I went to Other Music, and the clerks there TOTALLY warned me off the Electric Sparkle Unicorns.

Then we went to Housing Works and jacked each other off. Only in NY!
