Is Lakeview East going down hill?
Taking advantage of the nicer weather, I took a walk around my neighborhood today. Here's what I noticed:
- The True Value on Broadway has moved out.
- The Threadless store, promised since December, is still not open.
- Sura Thai Bistro has been under construction for what seems like forever. The sign out front still says "Coming in January"
- When I visited the pre-sale office of the massive Lakeview Athletic Club, they told me it would be open in January. The building is still very much under construction.
- Down on Diversey, Sherwyn's health food store is closed and nobody has taken over the space.
- The American Apparel has been had part of its storefront window boarded up for quite some time now. Why can't they get it fixed?
Why all the delayed openings and empty storefronts? The construction seems to be continuing apace, so why can't the businesses that cater to the people who are moving in to them survive?
